So…you’ve written a book. Now what?
Well, if you’re choosing to self-publish, you should know there are a lot of quality resources out there that won’t break the bank! Here is a list of the services I utilized when putting together my book. I can personally vouch for the quality of each. I’ll also be including recommendations from the community at large, which I will be appending to the end of this post.
Editing:
This is the big one, and usually the highest cost. Editing is essential, but I’ve seen so many indies say they cannot afford it. I understand the plight, which is why I am so glad that a friend of mine introduced me to Kay Springsteen. She is a thoughtful, thorough, professional editor with several years of experience with small presses–and she charges a flat rate.
You can find Kay’s website here: https://kayspringsteen.wordpress.com/word-whisperer-literary-editing/
Cover art:
Another big one! They say you never get a second chance at a first impression, and I’m here to tell you, people do judge books by their covers! Fortunately, there are a number of talented cover artists who work with indie authors to bring your vision to life without breaking the bank!
I used GetCovers. They are a Ukrainian company that does print, audio and ebook covers, as well as independent movie posters, author logos, and promo packages–and their lowest package starts at just $10.00! That’s right, ten dollars for a high quality ebook cover. I don’t think you will find a better deal anywhere!
You can check out the GetCovers portfolio here: https://getcovers.com/portfolio/
Also affiliated with GetCovers are MiblArt. They do custom work, so their prices run a little higher than GC, but they are still infinitely more affordable than other options I have seen. Well worth a look. Here’s their portfolio: https://miblart.com/portfolio/
Formatting:
Formatting is tricky if you don’t know what you are doing. I have a bit of experience from formatting my prior book series, but I wanted Soulmate, Stage Right to stand out, so I enlisted the help of C.B. Everett–and boy, am I glad I did! She offers both paperback and ebook formatting, and is, hands down, the most affordable book formatter that I have come across, and her work is exceptional. Just look at how pretty my book is! She also offers editing services on her website, which you can check out here: https://cb-everett-editing.carrd.co
